Installing gas detectors in the oil and petrochemical industry

During crude oil extraction, refining, production, and transportation, large quantities of toxic and flammable gases exist in the working environment. In the event of a gas leak, poisoning or explosions can easily occur, endangering lives and damaging equipment.

The fixed gas leak alarms manufactured by factory CMC can continuously monitor gas concentration 24 hours a day. When the concentration in the environment exceeds the set value, it will issue a two-level alarm with sound and light. The low alarm will issue a reminder, and the high alarm will trigger the ventilation system and shut-off valves and other safety systems to control the risk of accidents.

Toxic and harmful gases present in the petroleum and petrochemical production process include hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH₃), and benzene vapor (C₆H₆).

Toxic or flammable gas alarm devices should be installed in areas where gas leaks may occur, where personnel may be present, or where gas may accumulate, including:

• Crude oil and refined oil storage tank areas;
• Pump rooms and compressor rooms;
• Loading and unloading areas and pipe corridors;
• Surrounding areas of refining and chemical units;
• Enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces;
• Underground pipe trenches and valve wells.
